Today, our tasting room features not only handcrafted Bordeaux wines grown on-site, but also a curated selection of elegant Rhône wines from the esteemed Loosen Family estate in De Luz, West of Temecula.

We are a boutique winery and vineyard located in the Ramona Valley AVA. We grow Sangiovese, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Symphony grapes. In addition we purchase grapes from local growers. Our tasting patio is open Friday through Sunday 12 to 5 pm. No reservation required.

What began as a hobby turned into something more. The adventure began when Mike’s daughter, Cassie, decided to get married at Cordiano Winery in 2008. Its Italian owner convinced Mike to plant some vines. A few vines turned into 3,000 vines. Mike soon realized he needed help. That’s when he recruited his son-in-law Nelson to join him. For three years, they spent most days in the vineyard, caring meticulously for each vine. Soon after, Mike and Nelson built a 1,600 square foot cellar to store the wine he anticipated. From the beginning, Mike and Nelson realized they needed advice on every aspect of growing, harvesting, and fermenting their grapes. They sought the counsel of neighbors with established vineyards, among them, Cactus Star Vineyard, Highland Hills Winery and Kohill Winery. The owners shared their valuable knowledge and answered endless questions, ultimately empowering Nelson to turn their hobby focused grapes into award-winning wines.

Monserate Winery began with a desire to preserve the beauty and integrity of Gird Valley.  For 56 years, the beautiful 116-acre property was a public golf course, dotted with 100-year-old oaks and towering sycamore trees.  After falling on hard times, the golf course closed.  We had a vision to revitalize the land and create something incredible that would also enrich the lives of the surrounding community, and thus, Monserate Winery was born.  We have been hard at work to bring this vision to life since 2016 and have made a lot of progress. The reincarnation of the former Ferrara Winery has transformed this once-forgotten homestead into a tranquil rustic hideaway in the city. Our winemaker, John Eppler, hails from Northern California, having worked in Napa for Robert Mondavi, Rosenblum Cellars, and his own brand, John Robert Eppler Wines. Visitors are sure to enjoy a friendly and relaxed wine tasting that will long be savored.

ZXQ Vineyards is located in San Diego’s San Pasqual Agricultural Preserve on Highland Valley Road.

The owner, Andrew Klotz (you can call him “Andy”) moved to this area in 2002.

At that time, the property was planted almost entirely with Hass Avocados.

In 2007, the Witch Creek and Guajito fires scorched most of the property and destroyed the main residence.

After rebuilding, multiple factors contributed to the decision to remove most of the damaged avocado tress and replace them with grape vines.

Andy studied Viticulture and Enology as an undergraduate at U.C. Davis in 1977 during his pre-veterinary studies.

As an undergraduate, his dorm building also housed students with family names like Heitz and  Phelps. (Those guys brought some pretty good wine to the parties!)

Little did Andy know at that time they he would return to viticulture and enology all these years later.

Highland Valley Vineyards is a boutique micro winery perched on the edge of beautiful Highland Valley in the San Diego foothills. On our hillside vineyards, we grow Bordeaux variety grapes and together with other fruit carefully selected, we hand style robust red wines.

In 2007 we acquired our property in Highland Valley and in 2009 began construction on the winery and vineyard. Grapes have been grown in this valley for over a hundred years. As a nod to that long history, we named our vineyard/winery Highland Valley Vineyards and built the winery in 1920’s craftsman-style design.

We blend old craft with new technologies to hand style wines of character and distinction. Our special interest is big red wines with full body, a great finish but retaining nice fruit and nose. We have sourced our grapes from here in San Diego (South Coast), Mexico, Paso Robles (Central Coast), Amador County (Sierra Foothills), and Dry Creek Valley (Sonoma County North Coast).

In addition to winemakers, we are now winegrape farmers, completing the path from earth to bottle. We utilize sustainable farming techniques to minimize our impact on the land and maximize the quality of our fruit.

Woof’n Rose Winery, owned by Stephen and Marilyn Kahle, is a small family operated Boutique winery on a north facing hillside overlooking the beautiful Ramona Valley. We make only red wines made exclusively from Ramona Valley grapes, mostly using our eight estate grown varietals – Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Grenache Noir, Montepulciano, and Alicante Bouschet (a very unique varietal). Relax on our outdoor dog and rose themed tasting veranda, view the vineyards and surrounding mountains and valley, and chat with the owners and operators; all while enjoying our current releases, many of which have been medalists at international wine competitions. For the enjoyment of the white wine only afficianado we normally offer a by the glass option from other sources.

Overlooking the beautiful Highland Valley of Ramona there are about 4 acres of grapes that enjoy the breeze, which blows most of the day.

The Aglianico grape, (pronounced “A-ya-nicoâ€), originated from the word Hellenic, Ellenico in Italian, means, “from Greece.â€ Around the 1500ad its name transformed to Aglianico. In Italy, Aglianico is considered the Barolo of the south.

Our Aglianico grapes were first planted in early 2007. Approximately, 2000 vines were planted both on the east and west sides of the vineyard. Followed, was the Nebbiolo, planted only on the east side.

In 2008 and 2011 we added the Aleatico grapes. We produce two kinds of wines from this grape: a dry wine and sweet dessert wine, both with incredible aromas.
We produce a small amount of the dessert wine by using the ancient method, using sun-dried Aleatico grapes with 40% brix.
Wikipedia claims that, “Aleatico may very well be the most ancient wine grape.â€

Before the Romans times, the Greek settlers brought the first Aglianico grapes to Naples, Italy (Nea Polis or New City). From there, because of its particular characteristics, the Romans adopted the grape to make the very first commercial wine, the Falerno and exported it in the whole Roman world.

Recent studies that were made on the skin of the Aglianico grapes, have shown unique preserving capabilities.

The Nebbiolo is a grape mostly grown in the northern Italian region of Piemonte.
From the Nebbiolo grapes, the Barolo wine is made and it is one of the most coveted Italian wines.

This pleasing rosé is so red it could pass as a Chianti. This dry Rose’ offers a refreshing palate-cleansing quality throughout. The nose has cherry, strawberry, is light and fresh with forest berry and cranberry aromas.
Aglianico is naturally high in malic acid and you can taste that crispness here.

The wine is deeply layered with thick and juicy fruit flavors.

This special wine was aged for 18 months in oak and shows a massively long and intense finish, with evolving notes of black berries, ash, prune, spice, there’s a long tail of black fruit on the finish.
